98 Tahoe rearend clunk

I have a 1998 Tahoe 2 WD with 143000 miles, for about 3 years now the rearend slips and clunks as you stop or as you begin to accelerate from a stop. I have taken it to a reputable garage several times for this problem. They know of this problem with the tahoe and actually keep rubber jack balls on hand to place in what they call the slipyoke along with plenty of grease. They charge me $40.00, and this will stop the slip/clunk for about 4 weeks with daily use. I have read on this site about a new yoke GM has available which is for this problem. Has anyone heard of this new yoke? How much is it? Is it hard to install? Does it solve the problem?

Have you checked for wear in the differential? Very common.

Driveshaft yokes are not hard to install.

my 96 Tahoe 2/4WD is doing the same thing, I got the temporary fix from my reputable guy who told me it was a bandaid fix that won't go away. do you have any new info to add or have you decided on a course of action?
