I have a 91 525I e34 and the blower fan stopped working the other day??? I have searched the post for a fix and see a lot on the subject but not on my particular vehicle??? The fan does not work in any position (some post state that it will work on high - making the problem the resistor) I did not hear any noise when it went out (stereo on). I have also searched for the location of the blower motor and it seems that it is under the hood against the firewall, I took my car to a mechanic friend of mine and he said it is not there?????? any help would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to do without heat in the winter!!! TIA

Re: Help A/C - Heater fan stopped working
Hello Tina, sorry I missed your post from so long ago. Guess I was hoping someone else could anawer questions like yours to, there seemed to be life out there, anyway, if you haven't yet please start by checking these fuses in the front E-box [L/R corner of the engine bay], F9, F19, F20, F27 & F29. These are all IHK [heater/ac] related be F19 is the 30A fuse for the Blower itself and is a fairly common failure.
I'll be back tonight with further instructions whether or not the fuses check ok. Again, sorry Tina, chat with you SOON ! ! !...........jeff b. |

Re: Help A/C - Heater fan stopped working
Okay Tina, sorry I didn't have time this morning for more info, here it is. IF the fuses are GOOD, go back to your mechanic friend. The IHK blower motor IS 'under the hood' behind that removable panel at the top of the firewall. He'll/she'll have to loosen the harness bracket and harnesses for access and remove 5 [I think] 7mm headed screws the secure it on the sides and bottom and lift it off the car to see the blower. DO CHECK THE fuses first though & stay in touch......jeff b.....

Re: Help A/C - Heater fan stopped working
Hey Jeff, thanks again.... after having my mechanic "friend" check it first and he said it was the motor.... I wasnt checking to see if he was right or wrong only that I had told him according to the info I found on the internet the blower motor was against the firewall and he said it was not that it was inside under the dash but wanted me to find what side it was on so it would be a quicker job for him (without having to look for it) I tried what you said and tada it was f19 fuse .... (original fuse, blown) thanks soooo much
Tina

You seem very trained and helpful. I have been having problems with position one and two of my fan blower. I found a website (bmwe34.net) extremely helpful with detailed instructions and pictures. I went ahead and put in a new fan blower resistor pack. Relatively easy and inexpensive. Part was $23.00 delivered off the web. Unfortunately this did not resolve the problem. Position three and four blow full force but one and two don't seem to be blowing as they should be. Any ideas? Could it be the microfilter? |

Re: Help A/C - Heater fan stopped working
could be the cabin filter but you'd also have reduced flow on the higher speeds. these filters are fairly easy to replace so go for it next as long as the blower IS running on #1 & #2 speeds.
