how many miles? what engine, check the timing belt if over 60K miles it could of snapped or teeth on the bottom are gone if so, these are interference motors (valves bending)

Re: 01 galant dies

when it starts keep your foot on the gas. if it's a flow problem you should be able to keep it alive at least a little longer. i feel your pain my cord just died (that's why i'm now in the galant forums), it would start and then just stall. never got a complete diagnostic on it, but there was interference in the distributor, so check the distributor/cap, and also my vac lines were routed crazy wrong from the tard who installed my cai originally. anyways check the obvious stuff. are the wires arcing? are the plugs fouled? if it's the timing belt i don't think it will keep starting and running for a couple of seconds; pretty sure but could be wrong

Smile Re: 01 galant dies

Hi there,

Probably the battery went dead while waiting to be auctioned, and that resets the computer. Sometimes that is a good thing, but you almost always need to take one step after that to get it to run right again: clean the throttle body. May sound odd, but its true. I found this out when I had the battery replaced...the car would not idle, and would stall. The long explanation is that each time the car is started, the computer re-positions the throttle plate a tiny amount more open, in order to make up for the unavoidable black crud that forms a ring at the throttle body opening. But, when the computer resets, it lets the throttle plate rest back in the crud, so there is not enough air coming through, and the car stalls.

How are you with car repair? it is not a difficult thing to do, but you do need to be careful with the cleaner spray, and careful to not get any objects (tools, rags, etc) into the throttle body. Most shops can do this, and it should take well under an hour. If you want to try it yourself, reply here and I'll describe the process.

Good luck,

BD

Re: 01 galant dies

how about air mass flow sensor being bad???

had exactly same problem on mirage a few years back. the fix was either junk yard (not much helpful) get a new one , when I was looking for it found out it would cost me about 300 bucks por the part only. or what I did is that I disconnected the power to it, but had check engine light on all the time, and some gun shot noises outa tail pipe, when the engine temp was cool, but after the temp went up it was all smooth.
