Unhappy 1994 Chevy Cavalier, just brought it...

3 days ago, I brought a 94' Chevy Cavalier for $400 plus some little parts, and has 71,000 miles - 2.2 engine, but the one thing I want to ask is....

My car sucks gas, I thought it suppose to be a gas saver,
so any suggestions...... (already change the fuel filter, and oil filter, but no results.)

Sorry,.. no picture

I just want suggestions, I just want to know why my car is not a gas saver. My uncle said it was, but it doesn't seem like it is. I uncle changed the oil filter, and fuel filter plus brakes and stuff like that, any suggestions?

Whats it getting? It should get 25-30.
Possible Oxygen sensor, but it could be a bunch of things. Try to get the codes scanned, even if there is no Check Engine Light on.

at least 15 mpg

where is the oxygen sensor located? hopefully not on the cow panel because there's no room to find it.

Damn, that's horrible. Oxygen sensor is almost like a sparkplug-looking thing (coming off a wire) that screws into your exhaust pipe somewhere. It should be somewhere between the cat and the exhaust manifold on the engine. I don't know if that sensor alone would cause the mileage to be that bad, though.

Before you replace anything else, you need to learn more about vehicle maintanence quickly.

I hope you changed the oil when you changed the oil filter.

1.) Do a tuneup.

Air Filter
Spark Plugs (AC Delco Platinums Gapped properly) DON'T JUST INSTALL THEM WITHOUT GAPPING THEM.

do those first before you change sensors.

I own a 1994 Cavalier and it's last highway tank was 39.8MPG and it is a 5speed with 130,000miles on it.

I agree with Blazer. Tune it up before you do anything else. Air filter, plugs, wires, pcv, and run some fuel inector cleaner thru the tank. I had a 92 cav 2.2 5-speed I recently sold, and it had 230k on it and was still getting 30+ mpg.
