1995 grand cherokee limited, no start and alarm?
i have a 1995 grand cherokee limited, and i have a weird problem....
once in awhile, the car just wouldn't start... it happened again today, after i got my oil changed.. they changed it, brought it to the lot, and when i tried to drive it off.. the car wouldn't start.. as soon as the engine starts, it dies soon after.. and the guy who did the oil change told me that it was the factory alarm system that was preventing it from starting after hour of inspecting it... but he didn't know how to disengage it. could the facatory alarm cause something like this, if so is it possible to disable the alarm by non tech savvy guy like myself or do i need to take it to the dealer? thanks |

Re: 1995 grand cherokee limited, no start and alarm?
As far as I can remember, you should only have an entry alarm and not any sort of disabler. It certainly wouldn't start then stall like that unless it was a newer Jeep with the sentry key system. If you want to make sure you can disarm the alarm by grounding it out. Factory Alarm Disarm is purple/yellow - driver kick black plug

Re: 1995 grand cherokee limited, no start and alarm?
how would you disarm it? can you explain how you 'ground' a wire as i'm don't have any electrical experiences?

Re: 1995 grand cherokee limited, no start and alarm?
Take a jumper wire and attached it to anything metal that is "grounded". Then attach the other end to the wire listed above. But, like I said, I don't think this is your problem.
....I did have one in the shop a while back with a no start condition. It would crank but that was it. It also seemed like half the dash was not working. COme to find out it was the crank position sensor. Changed that and all was fine |

Re: 1995 grand cherokee limited, no start and alarm?
ok ur jeep does have an Antitheft system, it will allow the jeep to start but then stall immediately, but the Security and Highbeem lights will flash if this is the problems. and to shut it off just unlock the driver door with the key.

Re: 1995 grand cherokee limited, no start and alarm?
if the Securit Light and such is not blinking or ur headlights are not blinking when this happens then it is not the Alarm. it is most liely the Idle Air Control Valve (Motor)

Re: 1995 grand cherokee limited, no start and alarm?
no it is in the back of the engine (Tranny bellhousing) on 5.2L V8's it's on the Passenger side behind the exhaust right exhaust manifold, it is kinda hard to c but u can feel for it. on 4.0L I6 it is on the Driver Side in the tranny bellhousing.

Re: 1995 grand cherokee limited, no start and alarm?
Hey Everyone.
I'm new to this site and have been reviewing different threads for the past hour or so...and decided to join and kick-in my 2 cents! I'm convinced that a bunch of these similar threads have to do with a power drain and random alarm problems. My 94 GC 5.2L started giving me issues last winter and they went away all summer. Now that we've returned to the cold (I live in Northern Ontario) they're back! Twice this month I've gone out in the morning to a dead vehicle. Yesterday was the latest...I was able to hook it up to a spare battery. As soon as this is done the alarm system triggers. I try to disarm this by turning the key in the passenger door and it appears to work. However, when you attemp to start it the beast will fire and then stall. It needs repeated coaxing to keep going and idle and then it ran rough. This is probably the 6-7th time something like this has happened (only in the winter!). In the past it usually takes several days before the throttle response returns to normal. I also can't lock the doors and then unlock them with the driver's door; this always sets off the SOB alarm. Recently, my tailgate lock stopped working properly. I can lock and unlock it with the power locks from either door arm but can't do it with my key. Everytime I have to disconnect the battery to do any work the hard starting and rough running thing returns to make the next couple of days a real treat. Yesterday I had it back in the shop and my mechanic said that the battery was holding charge and that there didn't seem to be a drain... I've also seen, however, the symptom described elsewhere with the voltmeter dropping significantly when at lower engine reves, almost as if the alternator is bad (I don't think mine is, as this is the second alternator I've seen this with). The voltage drop on the meter isn't always consistent, either. I wish someone could help with these issues. I love this vehicle when it's working and am almost ready to give up hope. I put a new fuel pump in it recently because that's what the dealer said ...I'm $600 poorer and no further ahead! Any ideas would be great and I will post any ideas or solutions that are offered by my new service shop (no more dealer!!) Thanks, Derek. |

Re: 1995 grand cherokee limited, no start and alarm?
I think your starting and stalling problem is related to a bad Idle Air Cntrol Valve (Motor), I have this same problem except mine did it in the summer also, there was a person on here that had to replace his twice before his problem was solved (apparently the 1st one he bought was bad). next time this happens hold the gas pedal in slightly (idles at about 1500 RPM's) for about a minute and see if it stalls after removing your foot from the gas.

OK, I have looked for hours so I'm going to post!! We have a 95 Jeep GC and it got VERY cold (the big snow that Indiana got? that's where I live LOL) and I didn't start it...went out to try and I swear it acts like the alarm is tripped - it turns over great and TRIES to start but it just won't get there. I have locked and unlocked doors, taken Alarm fuses out, turned the key in the driver's side door but NOTHING...will crank but no go!! I've driven this for 5 years and only had a similar problem when the alarm was tripped, but never any fuel line freeze and not any problems starting it until now. I'm lost so any thoughts...ideas...plans...ANYTHING!! I need my Jeep back!!!
Help!!!

Re: 1995 grand cherokee limited, no start and alarm?
well it sounds like the Fuel Lines may be froze. You may want to pull it into a nice warm garage for a couple hours and see if it starts.
