plugging the resonators on a '99

so I just did the free ram air mod on my '99. now I am trying to clean up the lid (i am too cheap to buy an after market lid for $100). I took a belt sander and smoothed out all the ridges on the inside of the lid. i need some opinions on how to bypass the resonators. I was thinking of hack sawing the resonators off and then smoothing out the edges with the sander and then just wrapping the tube with duck tape. is it safe to have duck tape in the engine bay?... do you think it will get too hot and maybe melt?... or do you guys have any better ideas for bypassing the resonators??

1 more question... when putting on long tube headers (on a '99 z28) do I need to lift the engine??... is there any fabrication needed??... or is it just a direct bolt-on??
