Post 99 Bug. Need help!

Just bought a 99 Bug used with 70K. Love the car, but have problems with the radio when on AM. It has the standard V.W.-AM/FM, tape, with CD. When turned to AM it is nearly impossible to hear anything through static. It is partially from engine feedback, and alot from overhead power lines. I'm in the city of Minneapolis so the signal is strong enough. (I have 3 other cars with no signal or static problems). The engine code is AEG. No turbo. 5 speed transmission. Is there anything that I can do to reduce the static? Thanks.

Re: 99 Bug. Need help!

The car uses a powered amplified antenna. Usually the problem is a bad wiring connection or bad ground at the antenna itself. The antenna can also go bad. Do a Google search on "VW amplified antenna" & you will see alot of different options.
