rattle under acceleration

96 civic lx.

whenever i use about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and around 2500-4000 RPM i can hear a loose rattling noise. it kind of sounds like a bearing or something like that. i thought it was the idler pulley bushing but that was replaced and the noise is still there. all of the belts and the rest of the car have just been replaced/checked by a trusted mechanic. i cant seem to figure out what that rattling noise is though. it sounds simlialr to a PCV valve when its loose.

Try to isolate the problem by revving the engine by pushing the throttle with your thumb ( obviously with the hood up ) instead of driving the car. Good Luck.

could be your cat too. My cat went out recently on my Nissan and it rattled a lot up to about 3500 rpm.

could be exhaust heat shield, the one under your engine. mine was broken where the bolts are and it rattled like hell when i was accelerating in 1,2 and 3rd gear.

sounds like a heat shield to me..... have someone rev it up while your looking under the car and listening..... or have your mech check it for you while its on a hoist..........
