Cassie v. 1.8 (#4)

I can now proudly claim that I am the fastest man alive...just kidding. I'll settle for second fastest.

I just finished watching the Turbo Dreams 3 video when I got that urge. You know what I mean, teh desire to just go somewhere and drive really fast. Well, seeing as I had finished all my work, I decided to take Cassie out for a ride. I head one way down the highway, nothing. I pull a u turn, and right in front of me is my chance, a blue VW 1.8t Passat. I've raced that motor three times before, once on another 1.8t Passat (from a roll), and twice against the respective Audi A4 platform (once from a dig, once from a roll). All three I can claim as victories, the A4 roll ending with his front bumper at my door, the dig with his front bumper at my rear bumper, and the 1.8t a full car length (a car length being the length of a car between my rear bumper and the other driver's front). This was trial number four.

I pull up next to him and look over, and he looks back at me. I sorta 'toss' my head down the highway (its a light that leads onto a two lane highway), and he laughs and nods. He revs it once, and I just nod.

Light goes green, and I punch it. I get a good jump, I've been lucky with my triptronic launches, and get a decent pull by about a half bumper (his bumper at my door), and another jump through second. By third, I'm up around 80, and a full length up, when we both jump into fourth. He gets a jump in fourth, and starts to pull hard. He pulls a bumper on me, and I keep pushing. I get up into the hundred range, and start pulling agian. By 115, were dead even. I keep pulling, and by 120, I'm starting to pull up. We're both pushing hard, and by now I'm starting to pull up a bit. By 125, his bumper is at my rear, and we're holding. Im around 128, and there is about a foot between our cars.

Now here's the best part. By now, neither of us are moving at all. I mean, I'm not dropping, and hes not gaining. But he wont back off. I keep holding, and by the time I check, from the first time I hit 128 to the point where I he finally backed off, it had been four minutes. Four minutes at 128mph. Insane.

Well, he backs off finaly, gives me a thumbs up, and I just make my exit after returning the thumbs up. Final score: BMW-4, Audi/VW-0. Go me.

Cliff notes: None. Read, its good for you, damnit.

Thats one long straight highway.. you went nearly 9 miles just doin 128... I wonder how many thousand miles of engine life that took off your motors.

Four minutes is an incredibly long time to race in a straight line......You sure?? I mean, 40 seconds can seem like four minutes when your adrenaline is pumping.

Re: Cassie v. 1.8 (#4)

Empty highway at midnight, not really street roads anywhere at all. If I could get a picuture of what the road was like, I think you'd understand. I'm pretty sure it was four minutes, we started at 12:15, and I pulled off at 12:22.

i would be too scared to do something like that. why only 128? i would never top out my car, it would be higher than that. is that your top end?

Re: Cassie v. 1.8 (#4)

Fuel line cuts out at 130, and that only happens if you get it up to 128(electronicly goverened), then pull off and stomp in it hard. So yeah, 128 is the top end.

Do you mean the fun line cuts out at 130. As stupid as doing 130 for any period on a public road is they still do suck. It makes you look like an idiot if your whoopin someone's ass then they pass you after a 10 car deficit because of the governor.

Re: Cassie v. 1.8 (#4)

128 for 4 minutes isn’t really that big of a deal for a BMW. I mean there made to go fast for long periods of time. Also if he wasn’t governed im sure he could hit at least 150mph. So his motor wasn’t really maxing out. You probably do more damage to your motor in stop and go traffic then he just did because your engine cant reach its operating temperature.

Re: Cassie v. 1.8 (#4)

On a straight road, its doable. Like D12 said, they are made to go fast for a while. I can check, but I think the speedo cuts out at 150, and thats aerodynamic limitations. Unclebens, I feel ya there. Of course, if your going that fast and still havent won, I dont think your gonna, lol.

How? I'm a good drive, I jst like to race, and considering thats what those cars were made for...And I'm not sutpid, I know my limitations. Ive personally driven a car faster than 128, it was just top for the Bimmer.

Re: Cassie v. 1.8 (#4)

I really don't care if you go 130 on an empty road, but the limiter is there for a reason.

It's a BMW so it's not bad to go up to 130 for a few seconds, but staying just shy of the fuel cutoff limiter for 5 minutes isn't good.

What were the rpms? I know the 330Ci's (bigger engine) are close to 3000 rpms when going about 80, so yours must have been somewhere in the 5-6K range, or even higher. Just don't expect the dealership to pay for any engine repairs if it happens to blow soon. I have a buddy with a 330ci who was driving in low 100s when his engine blew and the dealership wouldn't cover the costs because the ECU told them everything they needed to know, even though he wasn't close to redline.

Just because it's a BMW doesn't mean it can take all kinds of abuse. Next time, once you get up to those speeds, slow back down, unless you really wanna blow your engine to get an M3.
