I want to buy a code reader.

I am going to buy a code reader this week. I want to spend less then $200. Do they all check transmission codes? Do I need one that does any special readings? Any brands should I stay away from. Thanks for the information. Dave

don't waste your $$$$$ on a code reader,,,,,,when one thing faults,,,generally other controls will fall out of spec,,,,,thus you will see
a list of things wrong,,,,,,the problem then is WHICH fault is the REAL
problem,,,,,and which are phantoms???? obd-1 was good for that,,,obd-2 not quite as bad
Live data tester much better bargain!!!!!!!

I have an OBD II reader from Innova, the 3100 model for 1996 and up, and I use it all the time. I gave $ 89.95 for it, but I think the price has gone up somewhat.

It's great for finding codes and putting the light out. Sometimes your vehicle will get a momentary glitch in the system and if you put the light out, it may not come back. It has definately saved me some bucks. Works great for me!

code reader

I have the same model. Couldn't be happier with it. It is amazing how many new friends will also need to use it.
