Head On Collision Caused Fire

Has anybody heard of fires in the passenger compartment as a result from a head on collision? My sister had a 97 Aspire. She was killed recently in a head on collision. Witnesses stated the the car caught fire to include the airbag. They had a hard time keeping the fire down until paramedics & fire dept. arrived. Not to get into details, but her multiple injuries caused her death & not the fire, but would have if there were not others there to help. I am wondering if this is something I should persue..............

i'm sorry for your loss

aspires have a fuel pump kill switch, so when there's a collision, it's supposed shut off the gas to stop anything from catching on fire. I believe airbags are filled with nitrogen (don't quote me on this), but I do know that they contain a small amount of rocket fuel, in order for them to activate. it sounds like the problem was either a faulty fuel pump cutoff, or a damaged/defective airbag unit.
