Question Transmission Removal

I have a 1992 Cherokee, automatic, 4.0, 2 weel drive. It has 430,000 miles(not a typo) and still runs strong except for a slipping trans. I want to replace it with one from the salvage yard rather then rebuild. It will be my son's first car so I don't want to invest much money. What I was hoping for was step by step instructions on R&R plus any tips I might get.

Thanks.

Re: Transmission Removal

WOW... Anyway, I'd suggest you get a Haynes or Chilton manual. I have a Haynes. They pretty much cover it.

Before you pull the tranny, you should check all vacuum lines and sensors. I had a failing TPS (throttle position sensor) that was making shifts between 3 & 4 pretty mushy. Once changed, shifts are crisp and solid.
