HVAC Blower

I have a 1999 Pontiac GP GT with 3.8 Engine. The HVAC blower motor won't turn off. I pulled the fuse in the glove compartment to stop the battery from running down and burning out the motor.

What causes this problem and how can I repair it? Also, where is the blower located?

My second problem concerns the LED read-out on the radio. The lightes dial went out, so I can't read what station I'm on. Everything else works on the unit. It has a CD player with an equalizer. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem without pulling it and sending it out for repair?

Thanks for your help,

Ascot

Re: HVAC Blower

There is a blower resistor in the heater box behind the motor, and if they short out, it can cause the motor to not shut off. Can you change the speed, or is it stuck on one speed? IF it's stuck on one speed, it's the bblower resistor for sure

The blower motor is below the glove box and you should be able to find a post on Blower motor resistor that will help you get to the fan.

This link should help you out on replacing the bulb and its on page 1

But how do I replace the resistor
Read this thread as it will help in replacing the resistor and most part stores should carry them but id try a NAPA dealer first.

Hey Larry,

Thanks for the info. This is a great website. Ain't the internet a wonderful thing. I was wondering this AM if there might be a site out there for GP owners that might give some insight into the problem. Even if I don't do the repair myself, I can't be BS'ed by an unscrupulous repair shop.

Many thanks,

Ascot
