ok not got a 240sx yet...but this is what i was thinking...for drag purposes... VQ30-DET or VG30-DET...how difficult is the swap to drop in one of those into an s13...or if someone has a better engine choise...please speak your mind

KA24DE-T

oh baby, you could get a pretty bad ass setup with the amount of money you'd spend on the vq30/vg30 plus custom fabrication and install.

unless you're planning on running a lot of HP (500+) then i'd recommend the RB series, since custom engine mounts, etc. have already been made

Re: what do ya think?

i agree a turbo ka
great torque to hp ratio
great motor for drag or drift only draw back is the lower rpms than say a sr
greddy actually has a turbo kit for the ka

Re: what do ya think?

best bang for your buck?? probably not the vg or vq. check out this link.. this guy was updating his swap and it didn't sound easy..

srscooby is right.. if you spend the money and make it a ka24det then with the money you didn't spend on the vg or vq, you'd be able to do more to the rest of your car; think of having an extra few thousand dollars to spend on things other than your engine

Re: what do ya think?

It would be really cool to VG swap, but I can tell you that you are going to spend some money. Not only that, but fitment isn't going to allow the ease of matinence that the KA allows. I would go with either the KA or a RB25. KA has a better supply of parts in the US.

Screw kits... http://store.yahoo.com/cheapturbo/gart3to457tr.html and put a "kit" together yourself.

Re: what do ya think?

Put a V8 and you don't have to worry about turbos, and with your KA-T you will never catch a VG30DETT, you probably might spend $1000-3000 on engine mods and still not top the stock 300hp off a vg. add bigger Turbos and go to 500hp with stock internals, try that with a KA.
There is no Replacement for Displacement, and you can't beat forced induction, but with a VG you get doth, bigger engine, bigger turbo= more power.

very true SHO, but, as always, it comes down to how much you're willing to spend heh.

hey phase, what power do you want to achieve anyway? that'd help in the decision making

i'm by no means looking for 1000hp...if i wanted 1000 hp i'd save my cash and buy a 6er stang with a blown motor and build a beefy 4.6 to go in it...or a 5.4...but i'm lookin' for a decent number 300 at the wheels...if i can get that with a KA-T or somewhat close without spending an outrageous amount of cash then i'll stick with that...if not...i'll play around with it for a little...and then save up for a big swap...or a different car all together

what he said dont do a kit.....300 hp to ground shouldnt be to expensive...unless you want internals for the safe side.

www.phatka-t.com check it.

Re: what do ya think?

You would want to change out at least pistons around 300whp. I know the phatka-t engine put out 400 but I wouldn't think it would be too smart to be putting that kind of power out with the stock cast pistons. Besides that, if you are going to make that much power, you will be spending money and the $500 you dish out for pistons will be the least of your worries.
