02 SiR Shifter "Clunky"

Hi all;

I recently bought a 2002 Civic SiR with about 30K on it. One thing I did not notice while I was test-driving it was that the shifter has a bit of a “clunk” in it mainly between 2nd and 3rd. The best way to describe it is that it’s not very smooth between the lower gears. The shift linkage is also quite loud (at least a lot louder then my 91 Civic DX). Has anyone else experienced this or should I have this checked out? I have heard that the RSX Type S has the same issue. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jer

if not jack it up, put some jack stand under it and check it out...have a friend go thru the grears and see if anything's hitting the linkage...if not...ur gonna have to get that tranny looked at

It doesn't sound too serious. You just need to adjust the cables.
Get the Official Honda Technical Service Manual from Helm, Inc. It'll probably cost $90 USD, but you'll be able to diagnose or fix anything on your car.

Im not exactly sure what you mean by "clunk" but if its a loose feeling clunk then you might want to get some shifter bushings. I put some on my si and its probably the best 16 bucks ive spent on my car. http://home.socal.rr.com/capyoda/02si.htm

Re: 02 SiR Shifter "Clunky"

Be more specific when you say 'clunk'..is it the transmission crashing into gear? or is it like an almost grinding/rubbing together feeling when you shift? That would be your synchros..
