Cool 97 Jetta GLS about to buy Need Advice Please

In the next couple months I will be buying this car off my parents for about $4000.

I am proud to be a VW owner haha and a 97 GLS is not a bad place to start.

My questions are these

I need to make this car look nice. I will post pictures as soon as I am not so lazy.

Description: 1997 Jetta GLS - Green. As of now everything is stock. It could use a good detailing which I am going to do sometime this week.

My Goal: I would like to have a nice looking car but I do not want it to be obnoxious. If I change the pain it woul dbe to black but I think I like the green and will stay with it. I would like it to look classy but sporty none the less. I would like to upgrade the shifter, pedals, gauges, underseat neons, stereo, and probably some rims and a body kit. What are your guys suggestions to getting started with a new car for a first time owner?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Stu

Since it was your parents car you should know teh maintance schedule. I'd still do plugs, plug wires, dist. cap and rotor unless you know your parents have done that recently.

As for cosmetic stuff, keep it clean. Its a european car, not a Chevy Cavalier. If the box says APC or "Neon" something like that, stay away. Body kits aren't necessary, Euro-spec bumpers are. As for rims, I say nothing bigger than 17", although a set of fat 15x8's or 9's would look real good. No real reason to upgrade the gauges, the factory installed just about everything you need.

Remember keep it euro and keep it clean, you'll be much happier because it will be unique compared to everyone else's car.
