I/H/E questions

Hey, i recently just installed my I/H/E on my new civic si after like 1500 miles and i went to the dealer about the Check Engine Light, and they did a diagnostic and told me it was the aftermarket parts. They also told me that what i did had voided my warranty. Needless to say, i was upset. Is that true? Can they void warranty because of I/H/E? If not, i'll have to have a talk with them.

Re: I/H/E questions

I think it does void the warranty. Any kind of alteration voids it.

Re: I/H/E questions

yeah it voided your warentee. modifications will cause your motor to not last as long as it would stock, well numerous modifications. But I doubt the mods were the cause of the check engine light unless it was an O2 sensor malfunction or something like that. Did they give you a specific problem?

Re: I/H/E questions

Bullshit about voiding your warranty. There has been a bill that was passed a while ago that states aslong as your mods are not the cause of the malfunction that the dealership cannot void your warranty. Also, to clear that check engine light just pull the negative off the battery wait about 30 seconds and put it back on. The computer will reset and sort of adjust to your mods.

Re: I/H/E questions

Wow, there was a bill passed? Alright, i'll try the battery thing. Thanks, and oh yeah, they told me that there was nothing wrong and they still charged me 60 bucks. Is there a copy of this bill so i can show it to the dealer?

Yeh its a good idea for you to get a copy of that bill. I didn't know they had a bill out for it. Also if the check engine light comes back on, take it to a performance shop and have them check it out. Who put on the header and exhaust? Maybe the o2 isn't hooked up right. Does your vtec work?

Re: I/H/E questions

I put it all on myself, i had directions though and my friend who runs a performance parts store guided me through it. I don't know about the vtec, i don't usually rev it high enough to hit it, (slow ass driver). I'll check it out in the morning on the way to class.

Re: I/H/E questions

It's called the Performance Consumer's Bill of Rights and it pretty much states that aslong as the modification is 50 state legal and doesn't come with a "offroad use only" or "may not be legal for use on public streets" type of warning, the vehicle manufacturer cannot void your warranty.

Re: I/H/E questions

I knew a website that had the bill in full and you could just print it out, but I don't seem to have it in my favorites list anymore. I bet you if you went to www.sema.com you might be able to get it from their website.

Re: I/H/E questions

The Performance Consumer's Bill of Rights is: "Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act,(15 U.S.C. 2302(C))"

Search for "Magnuson Moss Warranty Act" in google and you'll get a lot of hits for it.

Re: I/H/E questions

You can go to most auto zones and they will read the codes of your check engine light for free. Or that might be the maint req light I'm thinking about?
