premium or regular?

someone told me that I should only put supreme or premium (depends where you buy it) in my car, cuz it burns cooler, slower and more complete or something like that, he is a long-time mechanic also(not for a shop thoi, just for himself, but he knws what he is doing) and a friend told me that since he looked it up on autotrader model info, and it says that it only requires regular that premium wont do anything better, he also said the auto-shop teacher told him this.
who is right?

REGULAR

The difference in the regular and premium octane gas how much it can be compressed before detonation. Detenation is when the gas combusts before it is supposed to. This all depends on the compression ratio of your car. In a non-vtec integra, the compression ratio is somewhere close to 9.4:1 which means it only requires regular octane gas. Putting premium will only cost you more money. Dont use premium unless it specifies. I have heard that using a higher octane gas when it doesnt need it will leave deposits on the intake valve over time.

read your manual. whatever your engines octane rating is that is what you should put in your engine. no more, no less. all integras are rated at regular octane gas. the higher the octane you feed it, the more wasted gas and money you will use. you will actually burn higher octane faster than lower. so will fill more and spend more money each time you fill.

any form of forced induction increases the chance of detonation form the end gases in the cylynder buring at, or before, the same time the flame front starts. The trick to slowing down combustion is to increase the octane.
So, in short, if you supercharge the car in any fashion (turbo or mechanically driven superchargers or nos) you need to up the octane rating.

I am not too sure about that, but putting premium gas in your car every once will not be bad for your car because the additives will help clean your system out a bit. But I agree, putting it in every time would be kind of a waste right now with your RS...Save the extra money for your F/I

Honda reccomends putting 86 octane or higher in any of the cars. here in Colorado we have 85,87 and 91. I usually put in 87 and some days when i feel lucky i put in 91.

Good Lord, you have 85? Who the hell buys that? I would never touch anything under 87 for a normal car. 85 does not sound good...Must be really cheap though

85 gas is running .99, 87 is $1.11 and 91 is $1.23. Not too bad but like i said i only ran 87+. I refuse to put anything but 91 in my 00 Si.
