Question Anyone who knows clutches can you help?

I was just wondering from anyone who has a 5-speed or knows about the clutch fork, is the fork supposed to be the force that pushes the clutch back up? or is that just the hydraulic pressure? It's kind of hard to word what i'm trying to say. When you push the clutch in, the piston pushes the fork, which forces the release bearing into the clutch, forcing it to release the disc from the flywheel, but when you let the clutch back out, is the clutch fork supposed to snap back and push the piston back in? or will the pressure plate just push the release bearing back, along with the fork? Sorry for any confusion, I'm trying to be as clear as possible, any help is appreciated.

Re: Anyone who knows clutches can you help?

i think i get the idea what you mean, so here goes...

the clutch is made up of 3 pieces, a pressure plate, a friction plate and a release bearing.

the friction plate is next to the flywheel in between the pressure plate like a sandwich. the pressure plate bolts to the flywheel so the pressure plate is locked to the flywheel.

when you depress the clutch pedal, the hydraulic cylinder i.e. slave cylinder on the gearbox moves the clutch fork to what the release bearing is connected to and applys pressure from the bearing onto the pressure plate fingers, which then releases the friction plate enabling you to change gear.

once the pedal is lifted back up it is the pressure plate fingers that make the pedal return and the friction plate is squashed against the flywheel and pressure plate, hence once more giving you drive.

phew... hope that helps
