slow acceleration
I own a 1983 305 camaro with an auto transmission in it. It is very slow off the line. I was wondering if there was anything that's cheap and easy to do to it to help it accelerate faster.

Re: slow acceleration
drive down a big hill??
nothings really cheap and easy now adays.. How does the car run? poor tune-up will make a big difference in acceleration.. other than that, start with the basics, get an air intake and a decent exhaust system..

Re: slow acceleration
i recently had a tune up done. it's got a flowmaster exhaust on it, is that decent enough? would a holley fuel pump give it a little more get up and go? it sounds as though it's starved for gas when the 4-barrel kicks in

a gear change would do wonders, and maybe a stall converter. but it's not exactly cheap

Re: slow acceleration
the LG4 made 165 hp stock, but that has little to do with his launch, because the engine made 240 ft lb of TQ. Sounds like you have a problem somewhere along the line, check your fuel lines, fuel filter, change the fuel pump and so on.

Re: slow acceleration
also, it hesitates a little when taking off. I took it to a mechanic, and he said that it was just the edelbrock carb on it. is that true, that edelbrock carbs have a tendency to hesitate, or does the mechanic not know what he's talking about? it's got a new fuel pump and fuel filter on it.

Re: slow acceleration
Any carb thats in good working condition should run fine. Maybe yours could use a rebuild.
As far as upgrading the car goes though, a change in rearend gears would help and a stall converter wouldnt hurt too. Those 3.08 gears arent much for taking off. |

Re: slow acceleration
would the stall converter and new rearend be simple to install, or would i need to take them in? i don't know too much about cars

a rear end rebuild is something you'd probly want done proffesionally. but a torque converter swap is something you can do yourself. probly take ya 5 or 6 hours, and there's not much ya can screw up
