I have an '89 Pontiac Grand Am that was given to me by my grandmother. It only has about 27,000 miles on it. Last Saturday, I left practice at school only to find my car wouldn't start. The AAA man that cam to tow it said it sounded like the fuel pump had died; that wasn't it. It's been three days and my mechanic still can't figure out what's wrong with it! The engine starts, but as soon as he gives it gas, it dies. The only thing it did before it died was, on my way to the school, it seemed to have a bit of trouble accelerating. Please help me, i'm only 16 and do not have anywhere near enough money to go out and buy a new car!

Re: '89 Grand Am...wont start, cant figure out why.
If you're getting fuel, have him check the fuel pressure regulator. Sounds like it's not adjusting for changes in throttle position.
