I'm trying to replace the wheel studs on one of the rear wheels and I can't get this nut to come off. It's a size 36mm socket, and I'm using it with a pretty good size breaker bar. The torque is there, but when it finaly starts to turn, the whole axle turns with it. If it's in nuetral, the axle spins easy, so I tried to turn it in gear and it barely moves (still moves the axle). The brake caliper is already removed as well. Any ideas on how to get this off or has someone done it? As I was typing this I thought maybe I could put the caliper back on and use the parking brake...what do you all think. I'm waiting for the rain to stop, so i have a few hrs to figure out what I'll do to it. Thanks

Re: Wheel Bearing Lock Nut
why would you take the caliper off before taking lug nuts off? put it back on, pull the e-brake and you'll be able to turn the nut, assuming your e-brake works right.. if it doesn't then get somebody to stomp on the brakes (more pressure will be on your rotor from the caliper if the engine is on) and you'll get it off for sure

Re: Wheel Bearing Lock Nut
damn man, you don't unscrew or tighten the nuts when it is raised. do it when the wheel is completly on the ground. Loosen the nuts then raise the car and take the wheel off. My dad taught me that, easy way of doing it.

well from what im getting is hes trying to take of his rear hub and then replace the studs, he has already removed the wheel , thats why he said 36MM socket, thats no lug nut socket hahah...its the rear hub nut size, so obviously he cant put it back on the ground again.
I dont know if you gotten it off or not, if iputting more pressure on the breaks doesnt help and keeping it in gear doesnt work and putting the rotor back on and pulling the ebrake doesnt work, then try this .... ![]() good luck. let us know if you got it and how much fun you had getting it off

Re: Wheel Bearing Lock Nut
I got it off, put the caliper and bracket back on, then the wheel back on, lowered the car, and put 2 of us on the breaker and it went finaly. Then we spent the last 3hrs wrestling with 15yrs of rust to get the rotor off and the studs out. But its done, and we have a fixed wheel! /hurray
