Found Car. Good Deal?

I found a car that I'm thinking of buying. What do you guys think?

http://www.craigslist.org/sby/car/43654255.html

I talked to the guy and he said he wouldn't do less than $10,000. The kbb is around $8500-$9000. The guy is old and he said he's the only owner, so probly never been raced. He said he has all records and its been serviced by mitsu and it runs great. Sound like a good deal?

Oh, but I'll have to travel somehow from seattle, WA all the way down to San Francisco. Think I should do it?

Re: Found Car. Good Deal?

yeah man i wouldnt pay a dime over 8500 for that myself... sounds like it would be in great condition but 10k is a bit much.

i agree with joe if you tell him you can give 9k he will prolly call you back in a week or two and take it. If not, thats not the only dsm in the world. GL peace

Re: Found Car. Good Deal?

actually, KBB is affected more by year than by mileage. The kbb on my 98 non-turbo was way more than my 97 turbo, both spyders, both with 105K miles (what are the odds of that happening again!). 4g64 was $8000 and the GST was around $6900 i think.

Re: Found Car. Good Deal?

I looked for almost 6 months, in three states before I found my car. I wanted a Spyder GS-T, 5-speed. You wouldn't believe how many of them are auto! Anyway, when I found the car it was more than the blue book, but it was what I wanted and I could afford it. It was a 1997in mint condition, all service records, one owner, 51,000 miles, no mods and I paid $14,200 back in 2001. So I say, if you've looked long and hard and you can afford it, go for it. It's all in what makes you happy. I don't really subscribe to the KBB other than to get an idea of where the price of the car should be. There are a lot of factors that they don't take into account. Let us know what you decide!

Re: Found Car. Good Deal?

Thanks for the help guys. Anymore tips on talking him down a bit? He seems like kind of a stern old guy so I dont know how much I can get it down. His originall asking price was $11,500 and I just called him up and said hey I'll give you like 9 grand for it and he said the lowest he could go would be 10.

I've never personally bought a used car either so I dont really know the skills. And how do I go about getting the car checked out all the way down there? Just call up a shop and tell him to go there and send me the bill?
