EGR Valve?

I have a 94 TA that has been hesitating on acceleration. Also in the past week the check engine light has come on twice. It stayed on for about 5 min. and was gone. I read in a much earlier thread a while back about a paper clip trick to try and decipher the flashes in order to get an idea of what the problem may be, but can't find the exact thread. Please help a man and his car.

Re: EGR Valve?

It's pretty simple, but if it goes off and on you may not get anything out of it. What you do is take a paper clip and bend it into a "U" shape. Find the diagnostic connector (under the steering column to the right, it should have a small plastic cover over it) and insert the paper clip ends into the top two right hand side holes. Turn the ignition to on (not start) and observe the check engine light. It should flash once, pause then flash twice. This is code 12 which means the diagnostic system is working. Other codes may follow in a similar fashion of flashes. After you get the code(s) compare it with the listings, if you have a repair manual it will be in there, if not search online or just ask here. Hope this helps you find out what is wrong.
