Changing Oil / 1600cc

Dear Air-Cooled VW Gurus:

I am changing the oil on my '58 Beetle (1600cc) and do not remember what to do with the oil screen/filter.

I know that there is a plate with six nuts & a main drain plug.

What do I do after all the oil is drained? How much oil goes back in? What do I do in order to clean the oil screen/filter?

Can anyone help with steps/procedures for this project?

Thanks,

Casey

Re: Changing Oil / 1600cc

You'll need a gasket kit, widely available. Just clean the screen with a brush & solvent. It takes 2.7 quarts, most people just put in three. I use SAE 30W oil.
