Cln(clean) error on the tape deck

I recently bought a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE. I get a Cln(clean) error whenever I insert, or start a tape. Even after several cleanings, with a tape cleaner cartridge (wet type/isopropyl alcohol) I still get the Cln error.
Could it be that dirty, or something else?

You need to reset the clean message. Try holding the eject button for 5 to 10 seconds.
