Carburated to Fuel injected engine swap
I have plans to pull the motor(350) on my 84 Suburban and transplant it into an 89 Chev camper van. The van has a collapsed piston but otherwise is in good shape. The motor in the suburban is a 2 year old rebuild with low milage. What trials and tribulations can I expect going from a carburated(Suburban) motor to a fuel injected one(van). Can I not just swap the intake manifolds? Help with this would be greatly appreciated.

To my knowledge,installing the fuel injected intake should bolt right in.A few years back I put a 2001 7.4 liter engine in a motorhome and used the carburated intake.It bolted right in.

Thanks for your input. I'm wondering if the valves would need re-adjusting, oxygen sensor location, etc. My shop time will be limited so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Since the camper van has all the sensors on it and basicly you are putting in what is called a long block engine.The temperature sending unit for the guage would probably need to be swaped over.If there was an engine oil cooler,that would have to be swaped.The engine oil filler, distick and tube will need to be changed over since the camper van will probably have longer ones.I don't think the valves would have to be adjusted as long as there wasn't anything wrong with them in the suburban.You may want to check and make sure the exhaust manifolds will match up.There may have been a slight change from carberated to fuel injected engine models.I hope this helps you with your task.

Make sure that the intake will bolt before you do this. I have heads for an 82 350 and they will not fit on my truck 88 350, the bolts are angled on the new intakes.

All the holes line up on the intake but like with yours the angles are off. Do you know if it's possible to machine the intake bolt holes to suit the angled threaded holes in the heads or if I should swap the heads from the van motor? Thanks, Steve
