check engine light 1997 ranger 2.3l

Okay a few months back I got the code read. It was something to do with the hoses or purge selenoid or the carbon canister. I replaced the hoses and it wentg off for a little while but then came back on. The only problem with trying to replace the other things is that no auto parts store seems to know these items by the same name I have been told they are. I do not know much about cars/trucks at all and I am trying to fix this problem myself but I can not find any parts? Any suggestions? I live in St. Louis and we have Napa, autozone and a few others.

Just another quick question. Is there a logical order in which I should be replacing these things? Would I be better off taking it to a mechanic?
