high output alternator

I have put a stereo system (1000 watts rms) into my geo and was wondering if anybody has done the same. I was looking for a place that sells at least 120 to 160amp alternators. Im sick of having the lights dim while driving. I have a 1996 5-speed 3 cyl 1.0 liter.

Thanks Simon

Just remember, the alternator is MUCH more powerful. It will create a ton more HP loss at the crank. On the huge bass hits, it may stall the car. If you are gonna cruise with the system on, I would highly recemmond upping the RPM to at least 1200 to give it a little more torque at idle. That alternator is more than capable of stalling a little 3 banger at idle.

Re: high output alternator

I know that i will be sacraficing hp with the HO alternator.
I just purched the car about 3 weeks ago. Havent had time to upgrade/mod anything yet. I read in another post about the Bosch Platinum Plugs, new cap and rotor, timing adjustment among other things. Would this help at all when at idle?
How would you go about upping the RPM? I dont have a tach right now looking for optional dash cluster. Unless there is one i could get that works with the 3cyl.
I have a 1.5 farad capacitor and i hoping that the HO alternator will stop the dimming lights problem. Is there anthing i should know about installing the HO alternator so i wont wreck my electrical system?
Thanks

Here's what I would recemmond before putting the bigger alternator on
Run 4 or 8ga wire from your existing alternator directly to the + post on the battery
run an 8ga ground from the - post to the engine block
run another 8ga ground from the - post to the frame
run another 8ga ground from a distributor mounting bolt to the firewall
This should help a ton with the dimming lights, and also salvage your electrical system. And these wires would work excellent with the upgraded alternator.
