Re: should i get a STi

Just means I've answered this question about a billion times on this and other forums (or seen it answered), and the answer is always the same. About 99% of the time, if you actually ask yourself the question, then you shouldn't get an STi. It's not an anti-newbie thing or an anti-stupid people thing. It's just an experience thing. Search the posts and ye shall be rewarded with knowledge and insight.

...or combine a few of the good ones into a single sticky thread. Good idea.

Re: should i get a STi

If you are jumping from a "POS" tiburon then you are not ready for an STi... Many people think that OOOO STi 300Hp AWD GOBs of torque... Then, I find STi in the bush because of inexperienced driver... Thats all I have to say... Jumping from front wheel drive to AWD is totally different as I have found out... But jumping from a FWD to a showroom stock STi is different beyond comparison. If you have never track raced or driven your car to its limits then you dont know how to control an STi... Thats everyones 2 cents... and thats the reason why everyone says no... We just dont want to see another STi biting the dust because of drivers thinking that they can handle the beast...

If you've never driven a car on track or auto-X, you've never driven a car to it's limits. The problem is you have a car that has 300 HP and gobs of torque, which means that you can arrive at a corner a lot faster, and get yourself into trouble. Sure, I've done 0-60 in about 6.5 sec in the car...in 4" of snow with snow tires..., but you have to constantly remind yourself that you still can't stop. Big brakes don't help when there is zero traction from snow, ice, or hydroplaning.

Re: should i get a STi

Limits not meaning redlining in 6th gear I mean taking turns... skidpad controled drifts... You shouldnt own an STi... Im not trying to be an ass about it... Yes you may be a decent driver but I dont want you to get yourself in trouble when you feel like you own the car and in the end the car owns you... Im just saying this from experience I have too driven a WRX at the track as well as an STi at the track and both cars are totally different beasts... I have a GC8 pre-bug eye impreza that I set for track racing and that thing hauls ass... But its not an STi... Everyone thinks that they want an STi because its so awsome and powerful and all that but they dont know the history of Subarus... They are only out for the numbers and traction... That is so dissapointing because so many STi's go to their doom only because of inexperienced drivers... I just want to save them thats all...

This is very good advice. To add to this, here's a list of cars I've driven on track prior to buying the STi:

1991 Ford Probe GT
1985 Porsche 944
Mazda Miata (many)
1999 Subaru 2.5RS
2002 Subaru WRX
1991 Honda CRX
1998 Acura Integra
1999 Chevrolet Corvette
1997 BMW M3
1998 Ford Mustang

and there may be a few others that I've left out. The STi is a totally different beast than a typical AWD car, never mind a FWD or RWD car.
