External Voltage regulator wiring?

Hey this is screwed! I've got a 87' commercial chevy truck w/ a 454 in it. Some guy dropped a new motor in it but didnt know what he was doing. So what i've got is a chevy alternator hooked up to a ford external regulator and instead of havin a key power it was ran to a direct constant, which burnt it out. So i went out and bought a replacement regulator for a ford and chevy - the ford has I - A - S - F markings and the chevy has F - 2 - 3 - 4 on it, tried hookin them both up and they both either dont do a thing or starts over charging. Anyone out there know the wiring for the chevy?

www.chevelles.com and look through the tech articles, several writeups and diagrams.

Re: External Voltage regulator wiring?

I'd get rid of the externally regulated alternator for a 10 SI(delcotron) or newer depending on how many amps you need

Re: External Voltage regulator wiring?

Are you sure your alternator is not internally regulated? You have to go way back with GM to have externally regulated.

FORD
I Charge Lamp
A +
S Stator, alt terminal
F Field, alt terminal

GM
F Field
2 Stator
3 +
4 Charge lamp
