Service Engine Soon Light

The "service engine soon" light just came on in my 1998 I30. I have 93,000 miles and believe this light is just an indicator to have manufacturer recommended service performed. My question is how can I reset or turn that light off?

Re: Service Engine Soon Light

the light means you have an emission problem and if you don't want to have it check disconnect the battery for atleast five minutes reconnect and your light should go out

The "service engine soon"light is a malfunction indicator for Fuel injection, emissions and transmission electronics. This light comes on for about one of 100 or so reasons. When this light is on it indicates a problem. You must have your system scanned for codes , then address those codes.Don't ignore this light or performance and driveability will be compromised.

Re: Service Engine Soon Light

Go to Autozone and have them read your codes with an OBDII scanner for free. Post the codes and we can help you from there. The light is NOT on because it's time for maintenance.

I agree with the other posts, it's probably emissions related. I needed new O2 sensor on my '02 I35 with just 22K. Seems there was a bad batch of O2 sensors and it was repaired under warranty.
Regards,
