New Car: Skyline
1st off, I don't post here often so I don't expect anyone to know who I am and all so anywho...haha
About 2 weeks ago I brought home a 2004.5 Infiniti G35 Coupe. Which bring me to... 2nd off, I know its not an actual Skyline I just tried to get you to click on me hehe...So don't try to get all Automobile Correctness on me... The car has about 800 miles on it and I'm about done with break in so I hope to post my 1st kill on here pretty soon. My old car, the Monte Carlo SS is forsale now and as soon as I get it outta the way I can use the money to start on the G. I do have 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 carbon fiber rims on the way as well as clear corners. Other then that I don't have much more to say, the rest is on my cardomain page...I hope you like it! I wanna try not to be a lurker here anymore...I think I can win a few local races with this car [and definately will in a few months ]Pics here!!::: G-G-G-G35 UNIT

Wow, nice upgrade. You went from a car i loathe (no offense) to the car at the top of my wishlist (the realistic one). you get a
I will also cast my vote towards a GReddy TT kit, simply the best. I think it fits the car perfectly. On a sidenote: Did you say carbon fiber rims? I didn't realize they made those...

a G35 is a Skyline coupe. it is a direct replacement or the R34 GT 25T which is a 280hp single turbo 2.5 liter RWD coupe. just like the G35. just check out the japanese nissan site and you'll see.
now for the mods, i would just get a super charger. since it will cost around 5K and less headaches. the greddy twin turbo kit will cost around 7K and it will cost around 3K to put it in. thats the estimate we gave a guy who wanted to do one for his 350Z. not worth it esp on the stock settings you'll be making hte same power as a super charger but costing twice as much.

true but come on i couldnt live with myself supercharging a "skyline coupe", it just seems natural to turbocharge it!

Quote:
A centrifugal supercharger(i assume that's what you're suggesting) is ideal if one is looking for light to moderate power gains. But if you want more power, better tuning options, and i concede more complexity, the TT kit is ideal. Well, if you were to supercharge it with a more conventional supercharger (one that sits atop the intake manifold), you would require a new hood, and G35's really shouldn't have outlaw style hoods....

Re: New Car: Skyline
I second the 'whaaaat!?' on the carbon fiber rims. I wanna see! Not that I'd ever disgrace the old-schooledness of my '69 stang with big carbon fiber rims, but its a good idea and maybe if someday I get something it would 'go' on, I'd get em. Musta cost a pretty penny...
A quick googling turned up a handful of motorcycle carbon fiber rims, and I'd imagine something similar would look pretty slick on a newer car. Black '04 cobra comes to mind. Or a TVR T440R! Heres a pic of what I found: ![]() They say it weighs roughly 5lbs, including alloy hub, steel fittings and bearings. Ones for a car must have some sort of aluminum or magnesium center section, I don't think you'd want to be sinkin lug nuts into carbon fiber. |

The Greddy TT kit for the g35 can be had for a tad over 6 grand if you shop around a bit. And that is including the FMIC kit. You are looking at around 4900 bucks for a non-intercooled TT kit.. which sure seems silly. If I remember correctly, the Greddy kit with FMIC puts out around the high 300rwhp with full exhaust on a 350z. Now I'm not sure how much difference it would be on the g35.. If you do end up with this kit, dont use any gaskets that come with the kit and purchase better ones!!!
I'm pretty sure the Greddy TT kit puts out more hp and tq than the superchargers that are offered at the same boost levels. But if you really desire slightly less maintenance, I'm also a big fan of the Procharger kit.... Mostly because of Mr. James Chen If you don't want to go f/i, or not for a while at least. I'd go for the Helix test pipes to free up some hp... It's cheap and still retains some of that beautiful exhaust note. I wouldn't even shell out the 500 or so bucks for a cat back, since you'd maybe get 4 horsepower in turn for ruining that beautiful stock exhaust note. mmmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMmmmmm.. I wish there was a drool icon.

Re: New Car: Skyline
Yeah but its not exactly GT-R status, which is what counts. The previous generations of Skylines were actually quite common on the roads in most contries, they were more A to B family cars tho, the non GT-R's that is...

Mmm nice lookin car. Better to go with the Nissan anyways
. On the TT or SC I say go for whatever works for you man and have fun modding that baby. Oh and also the only CF rims I have seen are CF covered and not real complete CF. But qhat would look nice to compliment the rims is a CF hood :-D. Have fun dude.

Re: New Car: Skyline
The rims I posted are all CF(well except the center section)... As for how strong CF is... Very strong. Per weight some of the strongest stuff around, as long as the stress is in the right direction, but thats just like any part. Gotta design it right. There are carbon fiber driveshafts.. but they don't transfer nearly as much power as a rim.
