2000 Silhouette Problems

Just wanted to let you know that the wife and I are on our 3rd new transmission with our 2000 Silho minivan. 2nd one was 3k out of warranty, with the 3rd being another 3k miles over the 1yr warranty on the previous. then it went back in 2 weeks later for "tuning".

With enough growling and grumbling, and "i'm losing faith in GM" comments, they covered our tranny each time although we paid $500 for attempted work on the 3rd tranny.

Now we're sitting the dealership with a bad lower intake gasket & a burned out rear air-ride suspension relay. We're looking at $1500 in repairs....so it's back in the phone with GM. This should not happen to a vehicle that will be 4 years old in 2 days and has only 62k miles.

Looking for anyone else with similar experiences.

Cheers, ted

P.S. Thanks for the post on changing the fuel filter... did that a couple of weeks ago. Very helpful!

Re: 2000 Silhouette Problems

the intake problem is a known issue that should involve a recall, but GM's lawyers are better than their customers. Every 3.4 V-6, whether it be in a mini-van or other car, will need one sooner or later. If you are mechanically inclined, it's not as bad a job as it looks. I did the one in my girlfriends van in less than 4 hours, and that included a "let my calves uncramp and have a beer" break. The rear air ride relay is not a common problem, but with all your other issues, GM should take care of that as well.

Sympathize with frustration

Ted,

I have just joined forum to see if anyone else is experiencing so many problems with this make of vehicle. See my posted "Power sliding door" and to add to this my boss has a 2001 with nothing but similar problems including a potential transmission problem coming down the pipe!!
