98 GSX VS SRT4 VS LT1 TransAm (3wayrace)
Well, this saturday proved to me that I didn't make a mistake in buying my GSX! Originaly, I was trying to decide between an 1998 LS1 Trans Am, 1998 Camero SS, 1998 Mitsu GSX. All used. And I decided to pick the slower gsx becasue of the cheap potentail and all wheel drive. Well, about 3 months later, I started to have slight doubts about my choice and I was wondering if maybe I should have bought one of the other 2. Now I got an ACT 2600 clutch, apexi N1 3" exhaust and downpipe and a greddy Type s bov. Still seemed just ok to me(speedwise), until on saturday.
Well me and my Girl got into a fight at like 3 am so I left and went down to the ontario street races to blow off some steam. When I get there, I park off on the side and just watch the races looking for something that I might wanna race. Then I get out and go talk to a guy in a blue SRT4. I talked to him about how he liked his car when a silver srt4 pulled up to the starting line against an old chevelle on slicks. The chevelle heated up his tires and took the srt4 about 1 car on launch and kept its hold till about mid 2, then the srt creeped on him and eventually took him by 1-1 1/2 cars. I was like holy shit because the top end on that srt was killer. The guy in the Blue srt4 told me that those car are hard to launch and he was braggin about how good the silver one hooked up. Then, I decided to flirt with death, I wanted to race that Silver srt 4. I pulled up next to him when he jumped back in line, and I asked him what did he have in his car. He told me that all he have was an ApexiN1 exhaust kit and he revved it up. Needless to say, at thistime I was scared shittless of his car. I've heard on this site some 2g eclipses with exhaust, downpipe and bov, can run low 14's high 13's (like 13.8's-9's) and damnit, Those cars run that stock so I needed to pull one of those 13's out of my ass to maybe win. But, I also have 2 12' kicker subs and my spare still so I considered myself done. Just when I though that I was doomed, Someone elsee pulled up on the other side of the srt4 and wanted to do a 3 way. A TransAm. luckly, it was an LT1 instead of the monster LS1 but still was a V8 drag machine. Well, me and the Srt said ok and we pulled up the the starting line. We all started revving and getting ready for the launch, I bounch my revs between 5500 and 6000 and waited for the go. Then the flagger dropped his arms........... Bam, I jump on both car hard, like 3-3 1/2 cars (I've been practicing that launch so much and I even beat a few evo's all because of the launch) And I kept pulling until my shirt to 3rd, about the middle of third gear, the SRT4, started comming up hella fast and I was getting worried. We only run to bottom of 4th so I was fighting to keep that lead. By my shift to 4th gear, the SRT 4 had closes the gap from about 3 1/2 cars, to 1 but, the race was over, I flash and the GSX wins. I pull over to talk to the srt4 but he turns around before he got to me. The trans am pulls up and was like, What the hell you got in there????? I told him AWD, Stock Turbo, Exhaust kit. And he was shocked. I never even saw him throughout the whole race. Damn I felt so good. Needless to say, after that race, My friends gave me props and Everyone else felt they had somthing to prove and started challenging me to race them but I didn't want to race anymore, I just came there to blow off some steam, and I did........... how about thinking your gonna win and loose horribly.
i raced a maro ss in my dads vette, at the time i didnt know much about the maro ss. well i lost by 2 car lengths. all i noticed was his exhaust

Hard to believe you won. You beat a bolt on SRT4 that runs low 14's to high 13's stock with a bolt on GSX that runs low 15's to high 14's stock. You also say you practice launching the GSX a lot? Also hard to believe, considering the stress you put on a AWD tranny w/ every launch. Especially a *cough*glass*cough* Mitsubishi tranny. The LT1 also runs low to flat 14s, stock....

easily beleivable, from what i've seen the srt-4 arent the easiest things to launch
quote from lando, "one half ass shift, or poor launching off the line and you've turned your 15 second car into a 16 second car" just from what i've seen the srt-4 boys aren't having such good launches with those cars. as i've mentioned before, at the track a month ago, 2 srt-4 ran a 14.8 and a 14.5. the best i seen was a 13.9

I love how every race that comes down to a second difference is always called bs on when the underdog wins...everyone forgets about drivers. He said he has been practicing his launch, srt4 owners admit that their cars can be difficult to launch...this could easily (and seemed to be) a complete drivers race. He won, good for him. He said they were gaining on him in 3rd...easy to believe as that is where the AWD has become a hindrance rather than a help. Good race and good kills IMO.

also they didnt' race to the end of the 1/4. they only hit around 85mph which is where 3rd ends. its no where near 100mph which is where they would usually finish the race in if they raced for the whole 1/4 mile. and the SRT-4 already caught up to him like crazy by the end of third. so if they went to the end of 4th then the SRT 4 would've beaten him.

... actually TATII, my 3rd takes me up to about 95ish, And, I heard that when most people drag race at the tracks, they only go to about bottom of 4th when they pass the finish line. A race to the end of 4th would be a hell of a lot longer than a quarter mile. Guess is my 4th will go to about 125ish (which is nowhere near 1/4 mile speed on a almost stock clipse GSX) I think that top of 3rd/ bottom of 4th is a pretty decent run. Also, people that think It couldn't be done. I have had a replacement tranny about 2-3000 miles ago and I have a ACT clutch, so my launches are not bad at all and like lando said, Launching is a key factor in a race (which Gsx's have and Srt4 unfortunatley don't.) I know how fast the mothers are but fact is, That srt4 with that driver, and that LT1 with that driver, lost to me in my gsx.
