Re: smokey engine

Are you sure its not valve seals or worn valve guides?

Re: smokey engine

Ive not long done a headgasket, and i fitted a full headset, so its had new valve stem seals, not sure on the guides but there wasn't any play in them. when i stripped the head down, no3 cyl was scored but it wasn't smoking before i did the job?

Re: smokey engine

yes it is burning oil, hence the smokey part. Because ive done the head it now as lots of good power and a lot more pressure, but its resulted in pulling a bit more oil past no3 cylinder rings. The car as loads of power and sounds fantastic with the new s/steel exhaust but when when its hot, its putting a bit more blue smoke out than i would like.

Re: smokey engine

take it to a good reputable machine shop when your ready to dissassemble it and rebuild the lower end. they can resleeve the cylinders. they are hard to resleeve so make sure you go to a reputable mechanist.

Ouch. That sounds like some really big bucks. I sure hope that it'll turn out OK for you.

Best wishes,
Erik.

Re: smokey engine

Hello:
I have a 1986 944 Turbo sitting in the garage for
the last 3 years. I took it out last month, it leaked
oil somewhere above the manifold area, and give white smoke. It stopped when it got warmed up.
I drove it for a week. Now, it takes longer to stop
smoking. What is needed ? Thanks !

Well youve basically got a pretty nasty oil leak and the white smoke is the oil burning...so all you can do is find the leak and try to prevent it. How many miles are on the engine?

Neo the Hacker...hows it coming with yours?
