Question Which one is the best ECU for turbo b16a (Gen-1)

Hi there,

PPL ... I have a B16a generation one (cabel tranny) .... in my civic.. my stock ecu is PR3...
I am planning on buying a full race turbo kit for it ,,,
Can someone tell me.... which stand alone ECU should i go with ???
Which one is the easiest and user friendly.....
I'll admit i am a novice ... could u please guide me so that i can select the one that will make the most sense to me..

Which ever you get I'd recommend getting it professionally setup for you. I have yet to see a really good stand alone that is easy to use, unless you know exactly what you're doing. You'll want to get the thing dyno tuned anyways to get the most potential out of it, so you might as well take it to a place that will set everything up for you while you tune it. That's just my opinion. But I've heard nothing but good things about Hondata.

find the best tuner in your area and ask them what they prefer to tune and get that management. you shouldnt try to tune this yourself

Hondata is the way to go but you have to find someone that knows how to tune it.

Re: Which one is the best ECU for turbo b16a (Gen-1)

that presents some problems. I have no clue what would be the easiest to do your self. But AEM EMS is definently not it. My buddy bought it for his prelude motor and was never able to get it right, even with having it professionaly tuned. It's way too complicated and has just too many features that it gets crazy. I definently wouldn't recommend it if you're not going to at least dyno tune it.

i honestly don't know wht to do ...... me is super confused....

yeah and another thing..........
i was on full race today .......
they have two twbo kits for me that i like
one is stage 3gt with gt35r turbo (ball barring ) 580hp

do you know how to solder, do you feel comfortable doing it ? if you do then you can go uberdata, you could even send your ecu to the usa to get it soldered adn ready to be chipped. i feel that uberdata is a pretty simple program, ive created conservative base maps on it already, never ran it on a car but jsut playing around. uberdata might be the way to go plus its free software so all you gotta do is buy the data cable, the burner, chips, i forget what else but yeah.

as for the full race kits, ball bearing is always better but what is your hp goals, 700hp or 580hp ? ive heard a few people say that they liked the gt35. get the turbo that fits the hp you want to run

Re: Which one is the best ECU for turbo b16a (Gen-1)

well i totally feel comfortable with solder.. its not a big deal to use.... and i'll buy the burner and the chips... but will u be able to help mw with it ??? like hoe much fuel should the injectors spray when the boost kicks in and how much ... the timing should be retired and stuff... my goals are definately maximum horse power... but as far as i know... ball barring with spool up quicker... ... i have the whole motor built thou .... all i need is like proper fuel managemetn some how done....... but i was thinking ... if i go with gt35 and throw nos with that rather than giving up on the spool time with t67....
What do u suggest ???

get the turbo thats gonna meet yoru hp goals, im not a big fan of nos so i would go with the t67 but thats me

check out www.evans-tuning.com go search and look at the current posts and old posts and learn how to tune.

also go check out google and search uberdata and go check out there website also check out the forums and learn more about tuning by searching and reading posts. also download the uberdata program and mess with it, the forum has a post that tells you how to make a base map.

then check out www.honda-tech.com and search the forced induction and drag racing forums for tuning threads, and read and learn.

thats how i learned everything i did, i got a pen and paper and took notes on what was said and what to do.

you sir are forgetting that he is running a PR3 ECU and thus, pre-obd (OBD0) and Uberdata is for OBD1 ECUs. The PR3 ECU does not have a boost + VTEC rom supported.

IMO, get a PM6 ECU or a PS9 ECU (1 wire VTEC) and tune it with turboedit and the latest rom version NG28.

If you dont know what your doing, then your just going to have to live off the basemaps.

Nothing replaces a dyno tune.........................even street tuners will still have to slap it on a dyno.

Basemaps arent bad. They may run a little rich but still better than a hack.
