Arrow D15B7 motor swap

I just got a 1994 Civic DX w/ a whimpy little D15b7. I was thinking of a supercharging but i don'know. For the money i could buy a B16 and get teh same HP then turbo it. What would be the best solution for under 3000. Don't include the turbo on the B16

Re: D15B7 motor swap

Does anyone make superchargers for D series motors? I'd swap the motor. Better platform...

Yes swap it, alot more potential with a swap, which you'll appreciate in the long run.

I figured if anyone would, JR would, but I've read bad things about roots type superchargers on 4 cylinder motors.

Re: D15B7 motor swap

The swap is more reliable since the d15b7 has been running for ten years. I dont think an old engine will do to good or last any longer with boost.

Also, what b16 are you talking about. A or B.
And the b18. C1 or C5.

You left out the B18B1, it could be that, not just a C1 or C5 (I left out the B18A1 since it's an illegel swap into his car, it's older than the chassis, 90-93).

swap the old D series motor out and put a B18 c5 (Intregra Type -R) and get a greddy turbo kit and you'll be pushing 300+ horse power depending on how much boost you have from the turbo.

Well, in order to boost a type R motor you must first, drop the compression. Plus, it doesn't matter how much boost you run with a turbo if you don't have any power. More Boost does not = More horsepower.

Best bet is a B-series motor, B16 or LS. If you can get your hands on a GS-R for under 3000 with everything you need, you're getting a godfather deal. But B16 and LS motors are pretty easy to come by at a solid price depending on where you live. Or if you can find a D16Y8 which is the strongest SOHC V-tec motor honda made, boost it, and tune it, you could get easily 175whp or more. If you're thinking of boosting for cheap, check out this website, they seem to have a grasp on how to do it.

Swap in a B18C5 type-r and boost it? He's not trying to swap in a motor and promptly destory it here. Type-R motors and boost don't mix in general. It is possible to run a type-r motor on boost (low boost), but you better know your tuning VERY WELL and keep it in tune ALL the time. You'll have VERY LITTLE room for error, much less room than with a B16A or B18B1.

As was said, in general, boost and Type-R motors don't mix. This is not a combo that would be recommended in general for boost.
