'93 VR4 vs. '03 SRT-4
Hey everyone, I'm a newbie, I just posted on the 'Introductions' page. This street racing forum looks great for believable stories and little/no flaming. I own a red 1993 3000GT VR4 (300hp, 307lb/ft torque), unfortunately stock for now. In my area, there is a very nice black 2003 SRT-4 and through a mutual friend, I heard he likes to play around. He has an intake, LOUD BOV, and nitrous spraying his intercooler.
So I'm driving home with my dad on the highway and I see the SRT-4 coming up on me rather quickly, and he closes his sunroof (possibly anticipating a high speed run?). I let him pass, and then I pull out and pace him around 80mph. My dad just bought my modded 5.0L, so he's up for a good run. We cruise for a while, and then get behind a car. The car pulls in and the SRT-4 squats and hits it, as do I. No gaining, no losing. We came up on traffic and backed it down. Passed a few cars and finally a fairly long, straight stretch. He pulls in and I creep up beside him in 3rd, hoping to do a 3 honks deal, but as I reach his back door, he guns it. I'm already in the proper gear so I hit is as well, and jump a nose ahead, where I remained until I shifted into 4th at 120mph. Just then he pulled even with me, and then I hear "psshhhhh", as he shifts and falls half a car back. We kept it pinned, and I pulled a precious few cars at higher speeds (maybe 3 car lengths). As we were rapidly approaching traffic, I glanced at my needle which indicated 150, and I shut it down, happy about the win, and backed it down to legal territory before hitting traffic. Note: that is the second time I have been to that speed (although my stock speedo is likely a little inaccurate). I usually drive at or near the speed limit. Anyway, I drive behind traffic, and he pulls out, we give a mutual thumbs up, and he goes on his way. What can I say, lots of respect to the SRT-4, they are quick cars. I have never been a neon fan, but this cars performance and potential is undeniable. From what I hear, he is forgetting about the warranty and hoping to do a turbo upgrade for next year. There may be a few surprized V8 owners in the area. Props, till next time... |

Re: '93 VR4 vs. '03 SRT-4
Sounds like a good race, and it is always good to hear a fellow vr4 owner using the cars full potential. You should check out the 3000gt section of this forum, under 'Mitsubishi'. Welcome to AF.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical. |

Hey! It's a Newbie that speaks proper English!
Nice run, and nice car. So let me get this straight: you drive the red VR-4 and your dad drives your old modded 5.0? I'm impressed that you took it by 3 cars from a highway roll, sounds like fun. Man, I need a fast car...

Re: '93 VR4 vs. '03 SRT-4
cool race, although 150 MPH is a little to fast for my taste, i want them to be able to atleast identify my body when i wreck.

Thanks everyone for the great comments and welcome. Oh, and for the reply above me, don't feel out of place. I owned a very fast Mustang for quite a while and it's still in my garage under my father's ownership. My fondest memory of Mustangs is when we took an '03 Cobra for a test drive.

I sold the Mustang because I had both cars at the time, and needed to sell one (whichever one sold first). I needed a winter beater car when storing the Mustang, and I ended up with a VR4. I know I know, I just couldn't help it. I still drive the Stang some, I love it, and my dad is planning on either a 347 stroker or Holley Systemax II in the Spring.

Re: '93 VR4 vs. '03 SRT-4
i hate when someone says 5L and everyone thinks mustang, when technically the mustang was a 4.9L
and my 305 is a true 5L. none the less, impressive, sounds like an awesome winter beater!
