When cranking the motor if I remove the key completely the motor still cranks. This still happens when I disconnect the solenoid from the main wiring and jump it from the battery, removing the jump cable. Crate of Bud to the guy or Gal that can shed some light

Re: Spooky C3500 starter problem
I'm not sure if I understand your post. What wire are you removing from the solenoid? If you're disconnecting the solenoid coil feed wire (small wire) and jumping from the battery and starter stays engaged when you remove the jumper, then the contacts in the solenoid are burnt and sticking. If this is the case replace the starter.

Starter
The starter is brand new. If you disconnect all the wires except the main live to the starter itself, bypass the ignition switch completely and take a live feed directly to the solenoid, touch this so it acts as the ignition switch, even when the power is removed from the solenoid and just the main feed is connected the starter still turns the motor over.

Re: Spooky C3500 starter problem
You need another new starter. Also after replacing starter test battery and check all cables and connections. Low voltage can cause premature solenoid failure.

I don't understand why you would change a starter when the solinoid and/or bendix drive is acting up. I have replaced many chevy starter solinoid's and related hardwhare (spring, armeture....) at a fraction of the cost of the starter dc drive motor as a whole unit. I quess it wouldn't matter with the older starter's ,they r cheap cost but these new hi-torque starters are like $200. I'm not trying to be a know - it - all I just like to be educated. If I am wrong I can take this as a learning experience.Correct information is the best tool you can have.

If the starter continues to operate after you back off the key, I would think the ignition switch is sticking.

Re: Spooky C3500 starter problem
A second new starter has been fitted. The problem is the same. The starters all work fine when wired in but not fitted to the motor. When the starter is bolted to the motor and cranked it just keeps right on cranking. Still spooky

Re: Spooky C3500 starter problem
What do you do to get it to stop cranking? Do you have the ignition circuit disabled or is the engine running and the starter staying engaged?
