Question Climate Controls - Changing Bulbs

Has anybody been successful in changing their bulbs on their climate controls so instead it lighting up white, it would light up amber or green, etc? What would be the bulb type used and can somebody send instructions on how to do this easily? The pictures on binghamonlife.com are vague in showing where the bulbs are located and how to access them...Posting the pics would be helpful.

TIA! LOS

should be able to just put bulb covers on them, look for them in the ricer section of your local parts store.

Re: Climate Controls - Changing Bulbs

Are the bulbs easy to extract/access? I don't want to bust up my climate control (being that these things are pricey$) Thanks again!

Its not bad at all. Just a few screws to take off the bezel around the radio and climate controls, then a couple more to take the climate thing out.

Re: Climate Controls - Changing Bulbs

I did this in the middle of winter and I froze my ass off. What you need to do is simple. Just unscrew the front plastic piece that goes around the radio and climate controls. Once you take it off, unplug the cigerrate lighter wire and then lay aside. THen unplug the two screw holding the radio on the metal brackets. Then lower the radio out of it's holding spot and lay it at the bottom of the metal brackets. Then push in on the climate controls till the three little nubs are holding it on the metal bracket come out and then slide it out. This is tricky and do it slowly or your cables will come loose. After it's out. Tug on the faceplate on the climate controls and pull outward. There are little clips holding the faceplate on. Once it's off, you'll see the wires holding the bulbs, take them out and then replace them. Do the reverse of the this procedure.

While your doing it and can't find any colored bulbs to replace them with, try putting saran wrap of any color choice behind the face plate so that light will show through in that color. The darker you go the deeper the color will be. I did mine in green and it turned out great, just be sure, you cover all areas with the wrap or you'll have little spots where it will show of lighter color than the rest.

Hope that works for ya.
