Finshed: Taira Racing Yamaha R1
Hi there,
it took some time before it got sunny here, but today I finally got the chance to take some nice pics. My brother will be happy with it. It's for his birthday soon in November, but he hasn't seen it yet, although I told him al lot about how it pretty much looks like This is the Tamiya Taira Racing Yamaha R1. Painted Tamiya TS-50 blue. Decals all came with kit. Back is modified. The Tamiya CF is replaced by SAS CF. Wheels are painted white but it didn't give the contrasting effect I hoped for. I think that's because of the large brake discs. The brakediscs are drilled for better realism. The exhaust is done with SAS CF as well. It looks pretty good although there are a few little mistakes. Next time I'll do it better. The shinny effect of the exhaust is done with SNJ Models polishing powder. I tried to buy some chrome paint but it's very hard to get here in Holland. Dave (bugzilla) from Detail and Design in Scale advised me too use the polishing powder. With a 2 parts white and 1 part chrome background from Tamiya and a lot of polishing you'll get this effect. It looks great! So if you can't use chrome paint or can't get it, this is the stuff you'll need ![]() Well that's what I have to tell about this beast Enough talk, here are the pics >>>![]() ![]() Some of the pics are a little fuzzy, sorry for that.

That is really great. I would sure like to get it for a present. How did you chrome the front forks?

I hear so many people talking about striping chrome. I never done that, and never had any problems with the paint.I used Polishing powder on the brake discs and frame as well btw.

Re: Finshed: Taira Racing Yamaha R1
Thanks for the nice comments guys
I posted the picture of the rear twice (4th and 8th pic) That means I still have one picture of the back left Here it is:![]() On this pic you can see I made the rear tire a little flat in the centre to get a more realistic look.

I'm not a huge fan of bikes, but this one looks spot-on. a very lifelike build.
