Have any of you replaced your syncros? I need advice!!
So some of you probably remember me, I posted on here earlyer this summer about how I was having issues with my 94 Integra GSR. Well issues have turned into problems and right now the teg is sitting on the driveway with a stuck clutch and a tranny that won't shift worth crap. I need some advice really badly. Here is what I've determined;
Clutch: Throwout bearing went out. Causing the clutch to stick. Thinking of getting a performance clutch. What brand, What stage, and what surface material? Flywheel: most likely junk now and will need a new one, thinking lightweight? How light? 8lbs? 12lbs? Stock? Any comments on weighting? Tranny: Still shifts up until about 5k RPM after that I start getting a little grind when shifting (into 3rd mainly.) So I need syncros. What do you recomend I do? -Live with it. Cheep way out, but the car wouldn't be much fun for playing with since it grinds and sometimes miss shifts when i'm racing or driving hard. -Do you recomend buying a used tranny? ($1200-$2000) Way to expensive for me to afford right now, means having the car parked till next summer. -Or buying new syncro rings of ebay and replacing them myself? ($175) My concern with replacing the syncros is what condition my gear set is in on the tranny right now, and if its torn up from grinding. But this would be the lowest cost way to go. -I have also found a couple junkyards that have trannys with broken cases, that I could buy and take the internals out of. ($500) My concern with this is if the internals are damaged in any way. But this would mean good gear set and easy drop in replacment into my case. I will be doing all the work myself and am just looking for the best thing to do with it. I am a poor college student and need to repair this for as low of cost as possible. Keep in mind that I drive the car in traffic as a commuter vehical but also race it. Thanks for your advice/help!

without knowing what kind of mods your got, what you plan on doing to the car, how is the car driven street or strip. answer these adn we can help you decide on a clutch to match.
flywheel, get the lightest flywheel you can find. some people like to argue that a 8lbs flywheel is too light but of course those come from people who dont know one, the ones that do own them say its good and perfectly streetable. for syncros, check out www.gear-speed.com buy one of there carbon coated syncro sets. the syncros will last longer |

i assume when you say stage2 kevlar, your talking about clutchmasters, i dont think that, that clutch will hold up to your 300whp, but then again i dont own that clutch so thats all opinion. i would see if act makes a full kevlar and if they do get that and either the heavy duty pressure plate or extreme pressure plate, the clampign load should hold for 300whp.
but again i dont own any of these clutches, so i would wait and see if someone else can come in and state some facts. |

My concern with replacing the syncros is what condition my gear set is in on the tranny right now, and if its torn up from grinding. But this would be the lowest cost way to go. the syncros are typicily weaker then the gears and are designed to wear out first, at least thats my understanding. i say take apart the trans, get a look for your self what the gears look like, then if you need to go to a junkyard and pick up the spare peices. tranny work is really fun for me.

I lideratlly can't get individual parts for this tranny - being its off a b18c1 motor there about like gold when you find them and the junkyards know it.
I personally am looking forwards to tearing appart the tranny, it acctully looks like alot of fun to me. strang i know, but i enjoy stuff like that. what do you think about those syncros off ebay?

dont go cheap, go with a gear-speed set of carbon coated syncros, they will last your longer then the ebay ones for around the same price.
