1994 S10 Blazer Heater Core

Hey everyone,

I am in the process of tearing apart my dash on a 1994 S10 4WD Blazer w/AC to change out a leaking Heater Core. I have read many of the informative threads on how to do this, but I am stuck.
I have read that you need to "tilt" the dash in order to make room for this. After many, many screws, I still can't get this damn dash to tilt like everyone says. I have read through the Chiltons manual and saw no hope at all from that book. It's apparently not detailed enough for me to move on.

Hopefully someone out there has a 1994 or the expertise to help me out?

But, the part that states:
"The instrument panel must be removed or repositioned for access to the heater core case. Unbolt and either tilt the instrument panel forward or disengage the instrument panel components and remove the panel from the vehicle. In most cases, tilting the panel forward should be sufficient for the necessary access, but if necessary remove the panel refer to Body & Trim in this manual."

Does me no good. This doesn't go into enough detail.

I have heard that there are other tricks you can do instead of taking the whole dash apart.

Anyone have any ideas?

Been there, done that, too many times.

Here goes,
Remove the radio cover and the radio,
Remove the glove box,
Remove the cover, passenger side, under the dash,
Remove the bracket support center under dash, looks like a round bar,
Remove the cable for the blending door,
Remove hoses in engine compartment,
Using a combination of extensions and/or universals, remove the screws holding the heater box. (1/4"drive) Access will be though the radio compartment and where the glove compartment was and from the bottom.
Prudently pull back the heater box cover, there will be doublesided insulation tape that you will have to loosen where the box meets with the center section of vents.
There are 4 (four) screws (2 on each bracket) that hold the core in place.

The '94 should have the removable glove box as does the '93. I know the '91 doesn't so you have the remove the dash.

You might see that the box will have to flex a little but as I said, some prudent coaxing will allow the box to drop enough to get access to the core.

Thats what I was afraid of.

I ca take out the radio, glove box door and hinge, but the glove box as a whole does not come out. I have a shelve below the dash that is also part of the dash itself.

So it seems like I am going to have to remove the whole dash to get access. Or at least tilt it somehow.

Thats where I am stuck.

YAAAHOOOOO!!!

I finshed that project. Happy am I. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

I finished it in about three hours. The biggest pain being the pulling on the dash and the screws for the Heater Core housing....

The bracket support under the dash once removed should allow the dash to tilt from the bottom up. There is also another support on the passenger side. The bottom tray is part of the dash and will move with it.
As to the glove box being solid, could have swore that it was removable since the '93 does and I think I did one about a year ago, '94 that is.
Oh well, if the glove box does not come out, looks like the dash will have to come out. It is not that difficult but the heater controls, the headlight switch bezel, and the instument cluster all have to be removed. There are four screws, one on each side of the defroster vents, they will also have to be removed.
To do all that is about 3 hours, the good news is that the core will only be about 5 to 10 minutes of that.
