box sizes

hey, i'm noob to the whole car audio scene, so i need some help. i installed 2 15" kicker subs in my car. they came with their own box, but therein lies the problem. since i got them from a friend, they were outside for a while... in the rain. they work just fine, it's just that the box sort of deteriorated. i had to reinforce it with some plywood. but, on to the real question:

what size and style(sealed, ported, etc) of box do i need to get the maximum performance out of my subs. i'm going for loudness more than quality.

thanks in advance.

btw, i did search for this in this forum, but i didn't come up with anything. maybe i just searched for the wrong thing. anyways, any help is greatly appreciated.

oh man, i don't know the model of the subs. all i know is that the manufacturer is "kicker" and that they're 15 inchers. as i said, they were in the rain and sun and such, so most of the lettering is worn off.

does the volume of the box matter? will a bigger box result in a louder sound? that's my biggest dilema.

Re: box sizes

a bigger box will be more efficient, the max output will be the same, it will just take less power to get there

a ported box will be more efficient yet, and the max output will also increase over sealed.
