Headers
I am thinking about putting headers on my 2wd 89 1500 with a 5.7. I was thinking about putting dynomax headers on and cutting out the cat but still keeping the 3 inch main exhaust pipe that goes into a dual outlet muffler. I am shying away from true duals because of the price, and i am thinking the 3 inch should get pretty good flow anyways. i am not looking for anything drastic as far as power, just a little boost with deeper exhaust tone. I have a flo-pro V force muffler on it right now. Any suggestions, or would i just be wasting my money on headers if i wasnt going to go true dual?

Re: Headers
If it was me i would go ahead and dual it out with 50's series flowmaster mufflers. Not to loud at idle but when you get on it you'll defiently know. Or if you want it pretty loud you could go with 40's series mufflers. good luck

Re: Headers
Yeah, Im with Dog on this one. I would go ahead and dual it also. It really won't be that much of a difference one you buy headers etc... and you could use dual 2.25 pipe to keep some of your backpressure so you won't loose any low-end power.

Re: Headers
I have the headers and 3" single exhaust on my 94. Great idle sound, but i wish their were a little louder on the throttle. Very nice for daily driving though.

Re: Headers
I installed Hooker Super Competition headers on my 90 Silverado 5.7.
I used the stage 8 locking bolts with the good felpro gaskets. They have performed flawlessly for the last 17 years. |
