Arrow 300ZX Twin Turbo vs. Supra Twin Turbo

300ZX Twin Turbo vs. Supra Twin Turbo

Why would someone pick the Supra Twin Turbo over the 300ZX Twin Turbo?

Let's analyze this-

(Specs for 1995 Twin Turbo models)

300ZX-----Supra

Weight~ 3518----- 3445
HP~ 300----- 320
Torque~ 283----- 315
Engine~ DOHC V6----- DOHC Inline 6
Transmission~ 5 Speed manual----- 6 speed manual
City/Hwy MPG~ 18/24----- 17/23
Wheels~ 16"----- 17"
Doors/Seats~ 2/2----- 2/4
0-60 mph~ 5.2----- 4.9 (from Motor Trend 7/93)
Quarter Mile~ 13.8----- 13.4 (from Motor Trend 7/93)
Both assembled in Japan

Okay, Okay, I'll admit that the Supra does win on every spec except MPG (but who cares about MPG!) but not by much!.
Both cars in stock form are just about equal in speed, good looks, reliabilty and tuning potential (I have seen modified examples of each built over 700HP)
Also the Z has that goofy All Wheel Steering but both are still bad ass rear wheel drive demons that to this day kick every other new car's ass!
So why is there such an overwhelming cult status dedicated to the Supra and not the Z? Most Twin Turbo Z's even cost $15,000.00 less than a Supra Twin Turbo of the same year.

Well.. Perhaps its TRDs legendary racing history.... Or perhaps people like toyotas reliability. I had an asian friend who cant stop yelling SUPRA! SUPRA!!! SUPRA!!!!! Lots of people are just big fans of toyota. Then.... to some people.. those little stats there you mentioned... Are important. Almost doesent cut it, they want the thing that has the highest. Most people arnt gonna buy somthing to tune anyway, Depends on the state and city your in, lol. Iv got a friend whose got an 1100 HP supra, spraying. He takes it to car shows and everything. Who knows... It might be the price. The more expensive thing gets more attention... Toyotas perhaps advertised the Supra through racing to get its cult status, wheras Nissan just stands behind its products and lets them sell themselves. Who knows....

AM thanks for the information, but like all things in life, choice. We all have a choice, and that is why there's different color cars and different makes.
You left out 2 very important things that only the 300ZX Z32 built from 1990-1996 has the honor of holding.

1. Picked one of the top 10 cars ever designed in 1996, Motor Trend

2. Picked one of the top 5 engineered cars by any manufacture, by IFA
International Federation of Automobiles.

Generally the people who own a Z swear by them as much as the owners of the Supra. Back the that choice again.

Re: 300ZX Twin Turbo vs. Supra Twin Turbo

and good luck finding a supra twin turbo for the price of a tt z32... just won't happen.. besides, supra's get too much hype and are too well known.. if i had a chance for a brand new z32tt and a supra tt, i'd take the z any day of the week

I compair the two and say the Z car is like the quite superstar athlete who stays out of the spot light, but performs better than anyone else. The Supra is the Terrel Owens or loud mouth of the scene but has the skills to back them up.

the supra gets so much publicity, fast and the furious is a sales manager's dream. also, the inline 6 of the supra is well known for being a very strong motor with good reliability. alot of drag cars use this motor. its just a matter of preference i guess. id much rather buy TTZ and sink 20k into it than buy a TT supra.

Re: 300ZX Twin Turbo vs. Supra Twin Turbo

How does MotorTrend tell the future?

0-60 mph~ 5.2----- 4.9 (from Motor Trend 7/93)
Quarter Mile~ 13.8----- 13.4 (from Motor Trend 7/93)

And these are 1995 model cars?

Well besides the fact that your Z up there has a couple of hundred pounds of bricks in its trunk, I don't really get why people rag on Super HICAS. Especially people who have never driven with it. And frankly, I really don't care that the Z is less poplular then the Supra, or that people think the Z has no potential.

The more of that there is, the less likely some jackoff with barely enough brains to convert oxygen into carbon dioxide will buy an increasingly rare Z and wreck it. And the more jaws will drop when 500rwhp of twin turbo Z wrapped in a metalic green skin blows by them at 190.

yeh i dont get y hikas is always bashed, it helps for you to not slide out on sharp cornering, hence faster corner speeds... oo nooo sooo badd. yeh maybe not for drift but im into driving my car fast around turns on regular streets.

also the 300zx personally looks tighter to me, i think its just preference, shit whoever underestimates the z its their loss. everyone that has ridden or seen my TT 300 thinks its one of the most baddass cars they have seen for a 93. dont judge until you have driven or ridden. i've ridden in a supra and i still prefer my z.

what happened to making tight ass new cars??? where is the TT supras and z's of today?? stupid car manufacturers..

Well Nissan made the 350Z...I don't care for it that much but having driven them I can say that they are great cars.

And Toyota has pretty much stopped building performance cars. Now everything they do is some lame cross platform bodypanel job they sell under the Scion brand. Toyota is essentially a dead player in the sports car market.

Well...unfortunatly, those retched "Fast and the Furious" movies screwed it all up for the market. The Supra, unfornately, is a tad faster than the Z32TT, but it also has (I hate to say it, but it's true...whether you'd like to admit it or not...) more potential than the Z32TT. Both cars are amazing, and I'm a Z man, myself, but how many 1200hp Zs have you seen? Ok...now...how many 1200hp MKIVs have you seen? I rest my case. I would STILL take a Z32TT over a MKIV if I were paying for it....any day....

Re: 300ZX Twin Turbo vs. Supra Twin Turbo

A few reasons:

1. The Fast and The Furious. Self-explanatory.
2. The Supra is faster. Yes, I know it's not by much, but it's still faster.
3. The Supra is much easier to work on. Anyone who has ever seen the engine bay of a Z32 TT will know what I mean.
4. The Supra is much easier to get super high horsepower out of.

That said, the 300ZX TT is still a better buy.
