02 Malibu Radio

Hello Folks, I Have A 2002 Malibu W/ Cd Cassette Rds Radio. The Rear Speakers Do Not Operate. Any Ideas? I Have Checked Connection Plugs On Rear Speakers. They Appear To Be Ok. Just Thought I'd Asked Before I Go Behind The Dash.

Thank You.

Regards,

Fish 96

Re: 02 Malibu Radio

Stock radio, right?

Did they mysteriously cut out one day? Or have they always been out?

Do you have another speaker you can hook leads up to?

If you're not even getting intermittent sound, your deck might be shot.

Re: 02 Malibu Radio

Hello,
Yes Stock Radio. I Have Not Had The Chance To Hook Up Test Speaker. No, They Are Not Intermittent. When I Switch Balance To Rear They Emit No Sound. Thak You For Your Help And Guidance. I Will Let You Know How It Turns Out. I Am Hoping To Find A Shor To Ground For The Rear Speaker Feed. Do You Know If This Malibu Is Equiped With A Low Frequency Audio Amplifier? Which May Also Be The Culprit. Thanks Again, Fish 96

Re: 02 Malibu Radio

I'm pretty sure the Mali doesn't have any other amp other than what's in the deck. Theoretically a short to ground would cause failure in all speakers, not just the rears. If you have a boombox with detachable speakers, or some other bookshelf system, you can use them to send independent signal to the rears... you just might have to make some custom cables.

Re: 02 Malibu Radio

I have a 2002 Malibu LS and recently discovered a factory audio amplifier hidden in the trunk. It was behind the carpet lining inside the trunk, located near/around the vehicle's back tire (driver's side).

While changing the brake lamps, I discovered the amplifier and wiring once the 2 plastic wing nuts (holding the lining in place) were removed and the lining was pulled back.

The amp is probably smaller than a cd deck, and can be removed by loosening the small hex nuts that attach it to the side wall of the trunk.

Hopefully this will come in handy for someone... =)
