Shift Cable Replacement
I have to replace the auto gearbox shift cable on my 1988 Range Rover. Does anyone know whats involved in the job? I looked at it yesterday afternoon, and it looks like it will be a bitch
. The cable clamp is tight in between the framerail and the transmission, above the exhaust. Not fun. Anyways, I am looking for advice on how is easiest to do it. |

Hi ts been a while since ive done one of these
at the bottom of the cable remove cottor pin renove 13mm headed bolt out of bracket that holds outer cable rember when you replace this the bolt go,s though a cut out in this cable and dont over tighten this bolt because this will pinch cable and make it hard to change gear now go into car remove plastic cap in the center of gear stick slip out push button and spring undo 19mm head bolt with deap socket now remove gearstick pull up gear shift surround now this may be vauge unscrew 4 screws that hold down housing remove whole housing with cable undo 4 screws that hold on side cover remove c clip at cable end unhook cable and replace with new refit in reverse with putting 4 scews to hold down housing there on a slots this is so you can line up there gear selector light refit cable under car but dont fit cotter select park adjust cotter on cable till it gos in and out easy then fit split pin good luck Ebooters |
