97 Taurus idles high - can anyone help?
Willerd and I cannot be the only one in the world who this has happened to. Someone must have an answer before it blows the transmission.
Willerd has a 98 Taurus and I have a 97 Taurus. His problem sounds like the same problem I have. Out of nowhere my 97 Taurus will idle up to 2000 rpm in park and neutral. It just starts happening by itself. There is no warning. The kicker is that the service engine light has never come on. Therefore no codes are stored. It has 64,000 miles on it. When it first happened was at 16,000 miles and under warranty. Ford replaced the idle air control motor. I recently replaced the IAC and it did not make any difference. Earlier this spring I went through a car wash and it did it immediately after leaving the car wash. I thought it was a moisture problem. However, after the car wash it didn't do it again for 2 - 3 months. It just started doing it again a month and a half ago. Can anyone help. There has got to be an answer. |

Throttle Position Sensor?....(TPS).
Also, Try unplugging and replugging electrical connectors.....and make sure that the wiring harness is not rubbing against something. Those are 2 cheap and easy things that come to mind. |

high idle
Did you have your EGR Valve checked/cleaned out/replaced yet and the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV)?

I am having the same problem with my 98 taurus. It started after I replaced the camshaft positioning sensor. Any luck figuring out what the cause was?

If it should idle high again try replacing the coolant temp sensor. Anyway, mine doesn't idle high anymore. |
